About Northern State University

Northern State University, or NSU for short, is a 4-year public university located in Aberdeen, which is the county seat of Brown County, situated in the US state of South Dakota, having a population of more than 24 500 inhabitants, estimated during the 2000 census.

NSU was established in 1901 and received its current name in February, 1989. It currently offers its students, who number approximately 3000, a total of 38 majors and 42 minors, including 6 associate, 8 professional and 9 graduate degrees, in various areas of study.

Athletics

Northern State University's sports teams call themselves the Wolves and they compete in 16 sports, for both men and women, in NCAA Division II, in NSIC. Their distinctive colors are maroon and gold, and their mascot is Thunder the Wolf.
